Apology demanded for paper’s Occupation slur
Thursday 22nd July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
POLICY and Resources president Senator Frank Walker has written to the Sunday Times demanding an apology and retraction over the A A Gill column that insulted and infuriated Islanders.
His letter accuses Mr Gill of breathtaking ignorance and astonishing offensiveness over his television review column published on Sunday which included an attack on the Channel Islands.
In the column, Mr Gill accused Channel Islanders of ‘hanging out white flags and profiteering’ during the German Occupation and of ‘laying on their backs and making moaning noises’ for the Germans.
Policy and Resources Committee president Senator Walker has slated the accuracy of the article, and demanded an immediate apology and retraction.
