Drug sentencing policy could be under review
Saturday 24th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
LONG prison sentences for drug importers could be changed by the soon-to-be-released criminal justice policy.
Home Affairs will be asking the Royal Court to review sentencing policy on people who bring drugs into the Island as part of the consultation to the criminal justice policy that they will be releasing for consultation soon.
Committee president Senator Wendy Kinnard told the shadow scrutiny panel looking into drug addiction in the Island that the question of penalties for drug importers who are generally not from the Island would be reviewed.
She spoke to the panel – Deputies Jerry Dorey and Geoff Southern, and the Constable of St Brelade, Max de la Haye – about sentencing policy and about facilities for helping addicts at La Moye Prison.
