Three new records at Les Mielles GC
Saturday 24th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
COURSE records have been blown away this week at Les Mielles.
Weather conditions have been perfect for good scoring and Island golfers have taken full advantage with the men’s and women’s amateur course records being broken together with AT2 professional Lynn Cummins setting a new mark of 69 for the professional ladies.
Gavin O’Neill shot a gross 65 on Wednesday to beat several others’ previous best score of 66.
The previous day, as reported earlier, Frances Shaw shot a gross 74 for the women’s amateur record.
O’Neill, a former pro who has been in excellent form this year, said: ‘It was a good round, I really enjoyed it.
I had four birdies, an eagle and one bogey.
The rest were pars.
It was a Pro-Am for the juniors and I filled in for the pros.’ O’Neill won the individual event while his team, including Kyle Turmel, Harry Steele and Richard Le Sueur, placed fourth.
Cummins said: ‘It’s been a great week for Les Mielles, I had four birdies in my round and a couple of bogeys so there is still room for improvement.’ Cummins was playing in a Jersey Junior Golf fund-raising event with promising juniors Olivia Higgins and Georgia Wallis and young Danny Dawser, who was competing in his first competition.
