Aggregate Industries report profits increase

THE parent company of Ronez Quarry, Aggregate Industries, has this week reported a profit rise for the first six months of this year, despite the weakening US dollar, higher oil prices and reduced UK infrastructure business.
Aggregate, which has 50% of its business in the United States, said interim pre-tax profits increased overall by 11% to £44.
m.
The company said US operating profits had increased due to cash from acquisitions and better weather in the first quarter than at the same time in 2003.
But first half operating profits in the UK fell by 3.
%, to £46.
m, after a slower first quarter, with delays to a number of highway maintenance schemes, particularly in the Midlands.
