Civil servants recalled to Connex bus inquiry

Thursday 31st March 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE two senior Environment and Public Services department executives at the centre of the Connex bus inquiry have been recalled to the witness stand to give further evidence.

Chief executive John Richardson and director of transportation Alan Muir will face more questions tomorrow from the three-man committee of inquiry team investigating the background to the award of the £4.2m seven-year contract to Connex.

The inquiry was ordered by the States last year following a series of revelations about the background prompted by investigations carried out by Senator Ted Vibert.

Both Mr Muir and Mr Richardson have previously given evidence to the inquiry chaired by lawyer Hugh Shepheard but have been recalled to answer more questions.

One of the aspects of the events that has come under scrutiny is when exactly the two Environment and Public Services executives found out that an agreement had been reached between the union representing drivers and former bus operator JerseyBus for a £72 per week shift allowance to be paid to drivers.
