Town park plan wins backing from Constable
Thursday 31st March 2005, 12:00AM BST.
THE Constable of St Helier has lent cautious support to the town park plans revealed at a public meeting last week.
He says that if promoter Andrew Le Quesne can build the £30m park with underground parking spaces, then all town residents could benefit.
Mr Le Quesne wants to use the Talman and former Gas Works site to create 1,400 car parking spaces spread over three underground floors.
He wants to fund the project against future car park revenue, and says that it need not cost the taxpayer a penny.
‘Broadly speaking, if he can deliver a park with underground car parking then I would be delighted,’ said Mr Crowcroft.
‘It is a source of great dismay to me that we are still no closer to this project being achieved, and it is important that the public understand that some Members of the States have not lost hope in it.’
