Jobs law in place by July?

LAWS covering unfair dismissal and paid holidays could come into force from July.

The Employment and Social Security Committee want to introduce the Employment (Jersey) Law 2003 on 1 July, having last week withdrawn their proposal for it to be brought into force today.

The Appointed Day Act was withdrawn from the States agenda by the committee after the proposed Employment Relations Law failed to get the backing of Members and was referred back.

Committee president Senator Paul Routier said that the reference back meant that the Employment Law could not be introduced.

‘The reason we had to delay the Appointed Day Act was because of the Employment Relations Law, which had some amendments to the Employment Law in its schedules,’ said the Senator.
