St Martin pull out of the Battle
Saturday 2nd April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
ST MARTIN are withdrawing from this year’s Battle of Flowers because they cannot afford to build a float.
But Terry Avery, secretary of the Battle of Flowers Association, has not ruled out the possibility of the association bailing out the parish with an extra grant or more funding.
‘It is extremely disappointing that St Martin have had to withdraw, particularly for financial reasons.
Naturally the council will consider their situation and decide whether to take action,’ he said.
St Martin, who won the award for best mechanically animated exhibit for their float ‘Buddha Bounty’ last year, need sponsorship of at least £3,000 to supplement the guarantee provided by the Battle of Flowers Association.
