Castle visitors enjoy the march of time
Monday 4th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
CHILDREN and parents were getting into line at Elizabeth Castle this weekend as part of learning about the life of soldiers throughout the ages.
Over 400 people attended the fourth Flash Day organised by the Jersey Heritage Trust, which included quizzes and talks by former soldiers, dressing up in 18th century uniforms and the drill led by Gunner Graves, who impersonates an 18th century soldier.
Children were also given talks about how medals are awarded and even had the opportunity to make their own.
Helen Otterwell, family events co-ordinator at the Jersey Heritage Trust, said: ‘The children go away having learnt so much, and the parents get involved too, so they learn with the children.
These Flash Days also let us show off our heritage sights.’ More Flash Days are organised throughout April.
The next one – about farming – is being held at Hamptonne this Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
