Party time for sponsor

Monday 4th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE Island’s biggest company has stepped forward as the major sponsor for the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Liberation.

CI Traders, which employs 3,000 people, has pledged at least £150,000 towards the programme of events next month.

They are also donating more than £100,000 towards the festivities in Guernsey.

CI Traders’ support for the Liberation celebrations is a gesture that chairman Tom Scott says the board was only too happy to approve.

‘We took the decision that we earn our living from the Channel Islands and we have a responsibility and we take that responsibility seriously,’ he said.

‘Apart from taking money out of the community, we believe we ought to put it back in.’ ‘Last time we donated £100,000, which paid for the fireworks display, but we wanted a change this time as we thought we could probably burn the money quicker ourselves,’ he added with a chuckle.
