A MAN who ‘poses significant risk’ to drivers in Jersey was sent to prison for 18 months by the Royal Court on Friday and disqualified from driving for 24 months.
Vincent John Cooper (22) has repeatedly appeared in court for taking and driving away cars, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
He appeared in the Royal Court last week after he took his brother’s car from outside Romerils on 14 October and drove it around the east of the Island without insurance and while he was disqualified from driving.
He also admitted a charge of stealing an electric toothbrush and an electric razor from Boots in Queen Street on 24 August.
Crown Advocate Conrad Yates said: ‘He has a lengthy criminal record.
This is his third appearance for taking and driving away, his third for driving while disqualified, and his seventh for driving without insurance on roads in Jersey.
Non-custodial sentences have had no effect.
‘The time has come for a custodial sentence to be imposed.
He poses a significant risk to other road users by his actions.’ He moved for a prison sentence of 18 months.
