Assault claim as Senators clash
Wednesday 6th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
SENATOR Ted Vibert is alleged to have assaulted Senator Philip Ozouf in the States Building yesterday.
The incident happened in a ground-floor meeting room while the States were debating forcing Senator Vibert to remove allegedly defamatory remarks on his websites.
Senator Ozouf claims he was punched in the shoulder – an allegation strongly denied by Senator Vibert.
However, an eyewitness to the incident has told the JEP that he saw Senator Vibert throw a punch after a ‘big argument’.
News of the incident comes on perhaps the most significant day of Senator Vibert’s political life with his Jersey Democratic Alliance party due to be launched at Fort Regent tonight.
The first meeting of the fledgling party will try to establish an agreed manifesto ahead of the elections at the end of the year.
