Road closures to disrupt town centre for eight weeks

Wednesday 6th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE town centre will experience eight weeks of road closures from Monday 11 April so that resurfacing can be carried out.

Most of the work will be done during evening hours, but Hill Street, between Mulcaster Street and the Snow Hill taxi rank, will be closed from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4.30 pm.

In addition, for five days from this Monday, Rue du Galet will be closed to southbound traffic for work by Jersey Telecom.

The resurfacing will affect Mulcaster Street, Val Plaisant, New Street, Bath Street, David Place, Burrard Street, Minden Place and Hill Street.

The three-stage programme will last for about eight weeks.

The closures will occur consecutively, Val Plaisant and the top half of New Street being closed first, followed by Burrard Street and Minden Place in stage two.

For stage three of the project the whole of Bath Street and David Place will be closed.

Signs will be posted informing Islanders of how long closures will be for, and when each stage is to start and finish.

All this work will take place between 6.30 pm and 2.30 am, and outside these times the roads will be open as usual.

While Hill Street is closed from next Monday, access to the Weighbridge will be via the Tunnel or Route de la Libération.

Buses will not stop at Grenville Street or Snow Hill but will continue to the Weighbridge via the Tunnel.

Taxis will be running from Snow Hill taxi rank as usual.
