I am no alliance member – Deputy
Thursday 7th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
DEPUTY Alan Breckon has denied being a member of the Jersey Democratic Alliance – despite being announced as one of its executive council members last night.
I’ve not been asked to be one and I’ve not said I would be a member,’ said the Deputy this morning.
The Deputy for St Saviour No 2 was one of six States Members announced as among the leading lights of the new political party at its launch event at Fort Regent – the others being Senators Ted Vibert and Paul Le Claire and Deputies Judy Martin, Geoff Southern and Rob Duhamel.
But Deputy Breckon was the only one not there last night.
Asked about his absence, he said: ‘I went to a couple of meetings last year, but to be honest they weren’t particularly productive.
I haven’t even decided whether I’m going to stand later this year, so I’m not committed to anything.
I wish them luck, though, we need something to shake things up.’ JDA interim president the Rev Tony Keogh was unavailable for comment this morning.
