Rotarians celebrate centenary
Friday 8th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S Rotarians were praised as ‘an example to the world’ by Rotary International president-elect Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar this week when he spoke at an unveiling of a plaque to commemorate 100 years of the Rotary Club.
The plaque at Les Creux Millennium Country Park, which had been donated by Ronez, was unveiled at an event addressed by Mr Stenhammar and the president of Rotary Club de la Manche, Mike Tomkinson.
It was attended by around 30 other Island Rotarians.
As part of the centenary celebrations, the Jersey Rotary Club and the Rotary Club de la Manche have planted 178 trees at the site, hoping that alongside the plaque it will help future generations remember the work that Rotarians have done.
‘If nothing else,’ said Mr Tomkinson, ‘it will certainly make our bicentenary easier.’
