Rover crisis ‘won’t hit Jersey sales’
Friday 8th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
MG Rover’s uncertain future in the UK should not affect sales and servicing in Jersey.
Jacksons, which holds the car maker’s franchise in the Island, has been told by its supplier that it is business as usual and all orders will be honoured.
And the garage is confident that Rover will continue to make cars.
‘As far as Jacksons is concerned, we are still serving clients and we’re still selling the cars we have,’ said Tony May, general sales manager of the Motormall at Mont à l’Abbé.
‘We have seven cars in at the moment and more on order and I’m confident they will arrive.
Our UK suppliers have told us this morning that nothing has changed.
‘MG Rover have been on the brink before, and with a general election around the corner, I’m pretty sure there will be some form of rescue package.
The company is now in the hands of the administrators – a process that should take a few months, and I’m sure it will emerge from the ashes once more, although perhaps in a smaller form.’
