Opera House concerts to celebrate Liberation

SIXTY members of a professional London orchestra are being brought to the Island to perform in two concerts at the Opera House during the Liberation celebrations.

The events, on Saturday 7 May and Monday 9 May, are entitled ‘A Diamond Celebration of Peace and Freedom’.

The Royal Bank of Scotland International, who are sponsoring the events, are also subsidising the price of concert tickets for residents who lived through the Occupation, those who served in the Second World War or the widows or widowers of those who did.

Ticket prices start at £16, but each parish is being allocated a limited number for the performance on Monday 9 May for their veterans, which are available at £5 each.

Those tickets are being allocated on a first come first served basis, and the organisers are urging anyone eligible to contact their parish hall as soon as possible.

Local musician Gerard Le Feuvre will direct the concerts, which are to feature the second public performance of ‘The Rock’, which he composed for the 1204-2004 celebrations.
