SWIMMING: Masters swimmer John Liron lowered his British 50m freestyle short course record by four-tenths of a second while competing in the Brittany Masters championship in Redon yesterday.

He finished in a time of 27.06 seconds to claim the gold medal.

He won two further golds, in the 50m breast-stroke (34.53 sec) and 4x50m relay with his Ceps Dinan team-mates.

Liron’s next competition is in Dinard next month.

KARTING: Results of the karting event held at St John yesterday were: Cadets: 1, Rebecca Langlois; 2, Ashley Bonhomme; 3, Struan Moore.

Juniors: 1, Simon Bonny; 2, Joel Wroe-Johnson; 3, Kieran Monet.

100 Formula A: 1, Gavin Le Cornu.

125 Open (Gear Box): 1, Carl Vardon; 2, Cliff Langlois; 3, Robert Bonhomme.

BADMINTON: Jersey’s County Badminton team produced two superb results in the National Inter County Championships over the weekend to win Division IIIc and clinch promotion.

At the New Gilson Hall on Saturday they defeated table-toppers Buckinghamshire 2nds 11-4 to take three maximum points and then yesterday they followed this up with a victory over Middlesex 3rds by the same score.

Despite securing all three points on Saturday the Jersey team still needed to record a victory yesterday to clinch the title.

The team have won all eight of their Inter County matches this season.

VOLLEYBALL: The Insurance Corporation Volleyball League results of matches played last night were: Men’s League: Bank of Scotland Int.

Astros Two 3, Jacksons Mitsubishi Island Ladies 0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-17); Kleinwort Benson Astros One 3, Crills Sandkickers Two 0 (25-0, 25-0, 25-0); Pentagon Red Hot Tomatoes 3, Crills Sandkickers One 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-13).

MOTORSPORT: The class-winners of the Jersey Classic and Modern Trials Club trial held at Rozel yesterday were: A route, Mac du Feu; B route, Graham du Feu; C route, Andy Bellée; Twin shock, Ryan Harrison; Junior A, Adam Le Cheminant; Junior B, James Carrel; Junior C, Chris Vibert.

SHOOTING: The winner of Class A and High Gun at Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club’s 50-bird sporting, once again, was Ashley Le Sech, who finished with a score of 47 ex 50.

Clive Green won the B class with 32 ex 50 and with a score of 28 Peter Quimby and Jack Hanby tied for top place in class C.

MOTOCROSS: Sam Bingle won all his races in the small wheel 85 cc class to win the E McGarragle & Co Ltd trophy of the day in yesterday’s Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club event.

Kieran Gregory and Samuel Allix finished on the same number of points, but Gregory took second place as he finished in a higher position than Allix in the first race.

GOLF: The La Moye Junior Spring Trophy competition played yesterday was won by Kysee Ang who finished with a nett 70 off a handicap of 20.

Shetland Island Games team member Seb Brown was second with nett 71 off his four handicap and Kyle Turmel finished third on count-back, nett 71 off a handicap of six.

SWIMMING: At the 33rd Abacus Closed Island swimming championships held this weekend at Les Quennevais, Simon Le Couilliard was awarded the Colley Family Trophy for best overall performance when he achieved a hat-trick of Island Championship records, in the 50m and 100m backstroke and the 100m ‘fly.

Best individual performance went to Dan Halksworth for his swim in the 400m individual medley with Victoria Rebours receiving the Coca-Cola Trophy for best performance in the ladies.

GOLF: Nick House won the Pepsi Junior Trophy competition at the Royal Jersey GC yesterday with a gross 87, nett 69 from a handicap of 18.

Daniel Lundy was second, carding a nett 69 (gross 78) off a handicap of seven with Gyles Robin third on countback with a gross 76, nett 71, handicap five.

SHOOTING: The St Brelade team of Mary Norman, Barry Le Cheminant, D Thompson and Victoria College student J Marshall won the JRA Jersetoco competition at Crabbé yesterday with a total score of 409.46 against the St Martin team of Sue Le Cheminant, David and Robert Germain and College’s J Billot, who scored 389.25.

BOXING: Jersey Leonis boxers beat the visiting Birmingham boxers by nine bouts to three at the Royal Hotel on Saturday night, with Danny Maka and Ben Murray taking on two young England internationals.

Maka overcame his opponent but Murray was just beaten.

GOLF: The M Forrest Trophy, played at St Clement’s Golf & Sports Centre on Saturday, was won by Gary Parsons who finished the match with 33 points.

Paul King was second on countback, also with 33 points and Jorge Moniz was third with 32.

BOWLS: The Stadium team won the inter-club triples weekend competition at the Grainville Indoor Bowling Stadium on Saturday.

GOLF: The St Clement’s GC AC medal competition was won by Chris McNabb with a nett 62 off a handicap of six in yesterday’s competition.
