Police make 48 weekend arrests

THE police arrested 48 people over the weekend for suspected offences ranging from robbery and burglary to assault and drink-driving.
Supt John Pearson, the force’s third in command, said that the results showed how effective so-called intelligence-led policing was.
‘Our officers were clearly winning the battle against the criminal element in Jersey, acting upon intelligence received as well as positively enforcing public order,’ he said.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of breaking into the Airport Social Club and another was arrested after cocaine and other drugs were found at his home.
An 18-year-old was charged with the theft of a mobile phone, there were six arrests for drunken and disorderly behaviour, five for refusing to obey a police officer, one for malicious damage, five for common assault and one for buying alcohol under age.
Door staff The assaults were mostly on door staff at licensed premises.
In addition, seven motorists were arrested for drink-driving and a pair aged 13 and 14 were arrested for taking and driving away a motorcycle.
