Rover owners may be left out of pocket

ISLANDERS who own MG Rover cars were facing unforeseen bills today after it was announced that the bankrupt manufacturer has insufficient money to honour warranties.

Receivers Pricewaterhouse-Coopers revealed last night that it would be up to customers to broker a deal with their garage or buy a new warranty agreement elsewhere.

Richard Millington, the after-sales director for Jacksons in both Jersey and Guernsey, said that all MG Rover cars less than three years old were affected.

Usually, the manufacturer would pay for any repairs on cars up to that age by reimbursing the dealership which carried out the work.

Mr Millington said that the position outlined by PricewaterhouseCoopers last night was an interim one, and there was still hope that the situation would change and a way would be found to honour warranties.
