Top soap stars line up for a charity game at Springfield

JERSEY’s football fans can expect to see a clean game when Britain’s biggest TV soap stars play in the Island over the Liberation weekend.
Celebrities from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Brookside, Shameless, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Where the Heart Is, Minder and Holby City will trot out onto the Springfield turf for the Coronation Street All Stars match on Saturday 7 May.
A total of 24 celebrities will making the trip, including former professional footballers Viv Anderson, Alan Kennedy, Asa Hartford and Paul Dalglish.
The opposition will be made up of a mixture of the cream of Jersey’s footballers and media celebrities.
Five corporate packages are also on offer, allowing anyone who wants to come up with the cash to play in the match.
Former Boyzone singer Keith Duffy, who now stars in Coronation Street, will be in action at Springfield, as will Phil Olivier , who starred as Tin Head in Brookside and who recently won Channel 4′s The Games.
Bill Tarmey, who plays Jack Duckworth in Coronation Street, will manage the celebrities.
Fellow Street stars Steven Arnold, who plays squeaky-voiced Ashley Peacock, and Tommy Craig, who played ginger mechanic Tommy Harris until the character was written out of the series recently, will also play.
Andy Whyment and Alan Halsall – aka Kirk and Tyrone – are in the squad, as is Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason Grimshaw.
A number of other celebrities from the show will also be at Springfield.
