French say our image has ‘vastly improved’

FRANCE’S image of Jersey as a finance centre has improved, according to the country’s deputy Ambassador to London.

Jacques Audibert has been in the Island for the past two days forging stronger links with the two jurisdictions.

He said that his country’s impression of the Island had vastly improved and that more should be done to bring Jersey and France together.

‘We have had many meetings with (Policy and Resources president) Senator Frank Walker and the Bailiff about political subjects and the future of finance, and on how you deal with problems and how you use your tax advantage,’ said M Audibert.

‘We wanted to know how it is that Jersey is doing so well in so many ways, and we also wanted to confirm the feeling we have that the image of Jersey is becoming more and more positive on finance.’ He added that he welcomed plans to establish a new commercial freight link to France and bring a French supermarket to Jersey – although they had not been part of his discussions on this visit.
