Soccer fan clubbed to ground in Italy

JUVENTUS football fans attacked a Jerseyman in Turin on Tuesday night, leaving him on the floor of a bar needing five stitches in his head.

Liverpool FC supporter Aaron Want (29) travelled to last night’s Champions League game against Juventus on Tuesday and was attacked in the bar by masked men wielding baseball bats.

He was not seriously injured, but says that the attack left him fearing for his life.

Mr Want is believed to have been the only travelling fan to be hurt, despite the clashes between Juventus supporters and the police sparked by the 20th anniversary of the Heysel disaster in Belgium, which saw 39 Italian fans killed when part of the stadium collapsed.

Liverpool and Juventus fans threw missiles at each other in the build-up to last night’s game, which was drawn 0-0, but there were no large-scale clashes.

‘We had just been in a bar watching the Chelsea game on television and had a couple of drinks,’ Mr Want told the JEP.

‘We walked into another bar and ordered some drinks and eight people wielding baseball bats walked in and attacked us.’
