Unemployment falls
Thursday 14th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
UNEMPLOYMENT has dropped slightly since the start of the year.
At the end of March, the number of jobless people registered with the Employment and Social Security Department stood at 420.
The committee say that this shows an improvement when set against the figure from the start of the year and the number of unemployed a year ago.
Employment president Senator Paul Routier said: ‘This is in line with the trend at the end of last year when the figure stood at 477.
‘Although we would expect some reduction in the number of registered unemployed people at this time of the year, the unemployment figure for the same time last year was 758, so year on year this is encouraging.’
