Football:Scots celebrate double
Friday 15th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Scottish completed a Coca-Cola Combination Division I Reserves league and cup double last night.
At Springfield, Scottish defeated St Paul’s 3-1 to win the Dog Club Trophy with a brace of goals by Ruben Legge and one from Paul Duxbury, who is just returning from injury following nearly a season out of the game.
Scottish manager Stan Irvine said: ‘It was a tight game and in the end I felt we deserved to win; we finished the stronger.
Ruben has been in excellent form this season and he scored two cracking goals.
He led the line well with Paul Aitken in attack while Martin Forbes marshalled our defence superbly.’ Saints manager Paul Kelly said: ‘We played well and I didn’t think we deserved to lose.
We had some great chances but unfortunately we didn’t put them away.
‘We turned in a great team effort and congratulations to Scottish they’ve had a great season to win the double.’ Luke Watson scored St Paul’s goal, two minutes after the resumption to level the scores at 1-1.
