Man on trial over nine puppies left in hot car
Friday 15th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A MAN is on trial for cruelty to nine puppies he allegedly left in a hot car at Weymouth harbour while dropping off dogs in Jersey last May.
John Walsh (54) denies causing unnecessary suffering to nine puppies, abandoning the animals and transporting them in a way likely to cause suffering.
He left Jack Russells, papillons and a bichon frisé in his Vauxhall Astra with no water on a hot summer day while he took a day trip to Jersey to sell six other puppies.
Weymouth Magistrate’s Court has heard from David Bell, prosecuting for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, that temperatures soared to 28 degrees on the day.
All the puppies made a full recovery.
The RSPCA investigated the case and police arrested Walsh in his home at Brampton four days later.
