Race fans are left at the post

JERSEY horse racing fans face problems getting to Guernsey’s first race meeting in 13 years because the organisers forgot to tell Condor Ferries about the event on the bank holiday of Monday 2 May.

The ferry company have reserved about 300 seats on sailings that day for football fans travelling to the centenary Muratti Vase match.

As a result, racing fans and other Islanders who want to travel to Guernsey on the bank holiday leading up to the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Liberation have found it difficult to get hold of seats and car deck spots on the ferry.

However, Condor’s general manager for the Channel Islands, Steve Bailey, said that he only found out earlier this week that the Guernsey Race Club meeting was on.

And that came about as a result of complaints from Jersey race fans.

Jersey Race Club secretary Josephine Reed said that a number of racing fans based in Jersey – including owners and trainers – had reported finding it difficult getting across for the Guernsey meeting.
