Row over cuts to charity’s budget

HEALTH president Senator Stuart Syvret has called for a formal inquiry to be established after accusations that he made ‘extreme, inaccurate and unhelpful’ comments during last year’s States Budget debate.

The Senator was reacting to findings in a report prepared by two States Members after a row broke out about proposed cuts to the budgets of the Family Nursing and Home Care charity.

Deputies Collin Egré and Geoffrey Grime concluded that the Senator and Deputy Sarah Ferguson had effectively made misleading statements to the House during the Budget debate.

But Senator Syvret said: ‘I discussed the matter with Deputy Ferguson and am now giving serious consideration to asking the States to establish a committee of inquiry.

Such a committee would examine witnesses under oath.

Deputy Ferguson, I and my staff would have no difficulty with that process,’ he said.
