£14m redevelopment for Elizabeth Harbour
Monday 18th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A £14m redevelopment of the Elizabeth Harbour has been proposed.
It will see a new gateway made in the breakwater, a tree-lined promenade, a giant warehouse and the extension of both the car park and trailer park.
The 48,800 square foot warehouse will be built on the site to the west of Maritime House, which is currently an open trailer park.
It is also planned to build a second storey on top of the existing terminal car park using a lightweight frame and extending the trailer park along the northern arm of the harbour.
If approved, the plan by Harbours for the new gateway will mean all cars arriving in Jersey will drive through a gap in the granite breakwater wall to the east of the Elizabeth Terminal and along the Albert Pier to the roundabout near Maritime House.
Departing cars will follow the same path and all foot passengers will also use the Albert Pier.
Those choosing to walk along the raised breakwater will cross a suspended footbridge over the gap before descending to a tree-lined promenade.
