Muratti blow for Le Mière
Wednesday 20th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
MIDFIELDER Luc Le Mière has pulled out of Jersey’s Muratti squad.
The Grouville youngster, who scored in Jersey Under-21′s Ambassador Bowl defeat by Guernsey on Good Friday, injured his heel playing for his club at the weekend.
Said Island manager Dave Matthews: ‘It’s a blow but I won’t be calling up a replacement until next week.’ Matthews’ plans are on hold pending this weekend’s Upton Park Trophy clash between champions Jersey Scottish and Guernsey Sylvans.
There are eight Scottish men in Matthews’ squad and he is keeping his fingers crossed that they all come through Saturday’s clash at Springfield.
While the rest of the Muratti hopefuls have been training at Les Quennevais this week the Scottish players have been working out with their club.
Matthews added: ‘I need to see what happens in the Upton before I can start to finalise things.
Training went very well on Monday – all the lads apart from the Scottish players and Luc were there and we’ll be doing the same tonight and again on Friday.’ On Monday the full 22-strong squad will be together preparing for the match in Guernsey on 2 May.
The final squad of 18 will be announced later in the week.
