Special taste of freedom
Friday 22nd April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A NEW beer to mark the 60th anniversary of the Island’s Liberation goes on sale from Monday in Jersey Brewery pubs.
Named Force 135, after the British forces who liberated Jersey, the beer has been produced by head brewer Paul Hurley.
However, unlike the brew which was produced to mark the 50th anniversary of Liberation, called Nest Egg, it is not being given away free with tokens.
Nor is it as strong as Nest Egg, which was generally considered a potent brew.
Mr Hurley described Force 135 as a light-coloured ale, not much darker than most lagers.
He said it is carbonated but is ‘less gassy’ than a lager, and the alcohol by volume is 3.6 per cent.
‘It has a nice malty taste with a floral hop,’ he said.
