Cricket:Hague far from vague

NATWEST League Senior Cup holders Sporting Club showed no mercy against promoted Springfield on Saturday in the season’s opening games.
Skipper Matt Hague led his troop to a 147-run victory against Springfield, Hague cracking eight boundaries before he was dismissed seven runs short of a century.
Steve Carlyon and Ben Silva also made half-centuries as SCF rattled up 246 for three in 34 overs at FB1.
Springfield replied with 99 all out – over-50s player Greg Sykes top-scoring with 33 before he was run out.
Opener Mark Saralis held Romerils’ innings together with 45 in a total of 87 against Caesareans at Grainville – Caesareans winning by five wickets.
Old Victorians and St Ouen recorded comfortable wins against a Division I Select and Victoria College respectively.
Jamie McIntosh grabbed five wickets for 14 runs in eight overs for OVs while the pace of Barry Middleton (3 for 17 in eight overs) and Paul Horton (5 for 10 in eight) left the College 34 all out chasing 207 to win.
