Saved from the sea

Monday 25th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.

TWO people were minutes from being sucked under by powerful currents when they were rescued from rocks yesterday.

Tony Farnham , a professional boatswain who risked his own safety in navigating the narrow gulleys, said that he was sure that they would have died if he had arrived just moments later.

It is thought that the pair were collecting shellfish when they became stranded between Seymour Tower and La Rocque Harbour and tried to wade back to shore.

Mr Farnham had just returned after checking his lobster pots at around 4.30 pm when he heard screams and saw the man and woman in their thirties waving frantically.

‘The lady lost her footing and went under just as I got there,’ said Mr Farnham.

‘The man wasn’t too bad, but the female was suffering from cold and shock.

She had been completely under the water and was freezing.’
