Tuesday 26th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
ST PAUL’S FC junior Michael Weir, pictured, has become the tenth winner of the Lloyds TSB JFA Centre of Excellence Sid Guy Memorial Award.
The 14-year-old midfielder, who played in Jersey’s 2-1 under-15 Star Trophy win in Guernsey last month, was presented with the award last night at Les Quennevais by Valerie Guy, the sister of the late, popular sports administrator and journalist.
Centre of Excellence director Brian Oliver said: ‘Michael is an extremely talented player who works exceptionally hard.
He has had three years with us and he has set a fine example to all the other players.
He has been provided with good coaching and he has listened and learned.
He has also been supported by St Paul’s FC and De La Salle College.
Michael is a credit to his family and everyone wishes him every success for his future as he sets off shortly to join Southampton FC.’
