States say how they’ll save the Island money
Tuesday 26th April 2005, 12:00AM BST.
STATES services worth £12m will be cut by the end of 2008.
The Finance and Economics Committee have announced a range of proposed cuts across all States committees that will affect services as wide-ranging as tourism marketing budgets, housing maintenance, and sports and arts grants.
The £12m total includes some cuts already made for this year by the Fundamental Spending Review (FSR) and accompanies the £20m in efficiency savings that have also been announced today.
The cuts are deepest in the ‘services’ end of States departments such as the police, Planning and Tourism, and the savings will be diverted to ‘social’ departments to cover the increasing cost of health, education and benefits.
Almost 130 full-time equivalent positions – probably corresponding to a higher number of full-time and part-time jobs – will be lost through the service cuts, with the majority coming from Education, Sport and Culture, Environment and Public Services and Finance and Economics.
More posts will be lost through efficiency savings.
