CYCLING VELO Sport Jersey’s May Stage Race at Les Quennevais on Saturday was won by Caesarean Club’s Sam Firby in 3 hr 21mins.

Second was Vélo’s Richard Tanguy in 3 hr 24 min 15 sec and third was Vincent Peron in 3 hr 24 min 42 sec.

First veteran was Mark Wunsch; first lady was Sarah Smith and first junior was Peter Ilton.

MOTORSPORT Jersey racing driver James Walker finished tenth in his first race and eighth in his second racing for Fortec Motor Sport at Thruxton in the latest round of the British International Formula Three series at the weekend.

SURFING Sunday’s 2005 Surfabout, hosted by the Jersey Surfboard Club, saw 12-year-old Nathan Elms win both the under-18 and under-14′s junior sections with cutting edge manoeuvres while in the open event, current British Masters Champion Jon Carden, 38, dominated his final from the outset.

The longboard championship was won by Sam George while Grace Davies won the ladies’ event.

SHOOTING The Jersey Rifle Association beat the National Rifle Association by 1189.149 points to 1183.147 at Crabbé on Monday.

Top score was Colin Mallet with 150.22.

Jersey’s total included eight scores of 50 ex-50 at 300 yards.

Meanwhile the weekend’s spring meeting was won by Richard Benest with a score of 552.66 and the runner-up was Victoria College student Daniel Richardson.

GOLF The Demi Golf Society’s M Hanley Trophy, played for under the Eclectic format at St Clement’s Golf and Sport’s Centre on Saturday, was won by Dave Page.

Ray Pearce was second and George de Sousa third.

BOWLS Yesterday at St Saviour’s Bowls Club Pat Lyons, Isobel Bouteloup, Anne Houzé and Pat Painter (skip) won the Ann Waite fours’ tournament.

Runners-up were Mary Mourant, Pat Monins, Jo Bryon and Margaret Breen (skip).

The winners of the Le Corre Men’s Fours Decanter were Marcel Houzé, Barry Simpson, Geoff Shepherd and Alan Holt (skip).

Runners-up were Ken Breen, John Labey, Mick Everingham and Stuart Weaving (skip).

GOLF La Moye Golf Club’s Salver, played for on Saturday, was won by Laurie Cunningham with a gross 76, nett 70 off a handicap of six.

Second was Harrison Steel with a gross 88, net 72, off a handicap of 16.

Third was Kieran Goodricke, with a gross 77, nett 72, with a handicap of five.

GOLF St Clement’s Club’s Channel Hotels Invitation Open Better Ball Stableford competition yesterday was won with 47 points, on countback, by Johnny James and Mick Feighan.

Second were John O’Donoghue and Owen Gallagher.

BOWLS AT St Brelade Bowls Club on Sunday the Luff Trophy was won by Alan Michel (skip), Tom Buckley and Betty Wade.

CLAY PIGEON The winners of the 50-bird A-class sporting competition at Crabbé on Sunday were Shaun Roberts and Dave Le Renou, who scored 40 ex-50.

In the B-class Wayne Shales scored 32 ex-50 while in the C-class Robert Wilson scored 30 ex-50.

BOWLS Five men’s triples teams played against Hangar Hill at Les Creux on Saturday afternoon with four of the team’s winning, with an overall shot difference of 35, to take the trophy.

ARCHERY The Jersey Archery Society’s three day shoot at St John over the Bank Holiday Weekend saw wins for England’s Phil Cunningham in the men’s recurve; Jersey’s Liz Pomroy in the women’s recurve; Guernsey’s Toni Robilliard in the men’s compound; Jersey’s Angela Perrett in the women’s compound; England’s Jack Biggs in the junior recurve; Jersey’s Lucy O’Sullivan in the junior compound and England’s Dave Newman in the longbow discipline.

SURFING OFFSHORE at the Watersplash at noon tomorrow the ECO Grom Tour, featuring world class surfers, will teach youngsters how to protect their beaches and keep their waves clean and green.

Headed by three-times world masters’ champion Gary Elkerton and featuring distinguished Quiksilver surfers Welsh ripper Nathan Phillips, senior British champion Gabe Davies, one of the UK’s most promising junior prospects Tom Butler and Roxy surfer Sarah Bentley, the team will be joining SAS campaigners to deliver the environmental message to the groms (surfers aged between ten and 14) at the beach.

Depending on surf conditions they will also hit the waves sometime in the afternoon, in an invitation surf tag team event.
