Decision on café to be made tomorrow

Thursday 1st September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE decision on whether the former Broad Street toilets should be allowed to open as a café before toilets are installed will be made tomorrow.

Health and Social Services will meet in the morning to discuss the ongoing saga of whether or not Café Toulouse can start serving people food before screened-off toilets are fitted adjacent to the premises.

Proprietor Sean Murphy had hoped to open in July and says that the delay owing to the lack of facilities for staff is beginning to cause him financial difficulties.

The parish of St Helier, who own the building, have ordered two modular toilets and hope to have them put in as soon as possible, but they argue that Mr Murphy should be allowed to open in the meantime.

Committee president Senator Stuart Syvret said this morning that the toilets would meet their requirements and the café would be allowed to open once they were installed.
