DESPITE a battling display Cassaeran coach Andrew Evans’ series of surprise victories came to an end in the final of the Forsyths Partners Jersey Senior Open.
Unseeded 39-year-old Evans had defeated No 4 seed Adrian Jacobs, aged just 23, in the quarter finals and then top seed Tim Webster in the semis.
His final opponent was Bern Gudzelack, the No 3 seed from Yorkshire – and 14 years younger.
He too was in impressive form, beating Jersey’s Jeremy Cross in the quarters and Ed Gates, the No 2 seed in the semis.

But Jersey did claim titles – again against the odds – when the Island pair of Cross and Pieter Theron beat top-seeds Webster and Ed Seater 7-6, 7-6 in a thrilling men’s doubles final Jersey’s Rebecca Edwards and Guernsey’s Pieter Theron won the mixed doubles final against Matt Harris and Michelle Snyman 7-5, 6-2.
