Island life comes under spotlight

Thursday 1st September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

A NEW annual survey to obtain detailed information on a wide range of social issues was launched today.

Three thousand Islanders will be chosen at random and be invited to answer questions to allow a better understanding of issues like population demographics, economic activity and household structure.

The Jersey Annual Social Survey is being organised by the States’ Statistics Unit to obtain more detailed information and formulate better and more accurate policies on a wide range of social issues.

Also to be tackled are areas of leisure activity, health and lifestyle, pension provision, policing, transport and quality of public services.

Questions cover subjects like diet, exercise, transport to work, use of buses, visits to the town markets, use of public parks, library use and gambling.
