Planning ‘are dragging feet’ over Town Park

Thursday 1st September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE promoter of the Millennium Town Park scheme says Planning are dragging their feet on the project.

Andrew Le Quesne, who is promoting a £30m development on the site, including three floors of underground car parking, says it is only the Environment and Public Services Committee who are slowing down the process.

He says the public have backed the idea of a town park in a huge petition, that the States have voted overwhelmingly to move the scheme forward, that the trust idea proposed by Deputy Rob Duhamel was suggested by the Law Officers and that the funding model for his scheme has been accepted by major banks.

The only people not moving the project forward, he says, are Planning.

‘It is frustrating beyond belief,’ said Mr Le Quesne.

‘Since that land was bought and vested in the States they have singularly failed to do anything other than spend money on it, with no benefit to the Island whatsoever.

A lot of expense has been accrued, and I think they have had long enough.’
