THREE Jersey Muzzleloaders marksmen have won National Championship medals.

George Arnold, Gareth Callan and Mike Alexandre all placed in medal positions at the Muzzleloaders’ National Championships held at Wedgnock in Warwickshire last weekend.

Arnold won two golds using his 1795 pattern .75 calibre Brown Bess Musket in the original competition, shot at 50 and 75 metres against a packed field.

He also won a silver in the Brown Bess Musket Reproduction section going on to complete a set with a bronze with his Percussion Lovell Musket in the Lovell competition.

Callan claimed bronze in both the original and reproduction Brown Bess competitions.

Great Britain team member Callan will have caught the selectors’ eye again as he look to keep his place in the international team for next year.

First time competitor at national level, Mick Alexandre, won his first medal – a silver – in the Patched Ball competition against a strong and experienced strong field.

A delighted Alexandre said: ‘I didn’t think I stood a chance of winning a medal but it all went right from the first shot and I never looked back’.

Team captain George Arnold commented that with over 200 cards shot over the two-day event this was a great effort and the strongest showing from a Jersey team in many years.
