Oh so cool

Saturday 3rd September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY has been proclaimed the coolest place to be in Britain this weekend.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray told millions of listeners on his lunchtime show to forget Bergerac, because the Island was now well and truly on the cool Britannia map.

The focus of the massive media interest is, of course, today’s Jersey Live music festival.

Organisers have secured headline sets from top indie rock bands Kasabian, The Futureheads and the Bravery at the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Showground.

And while national DJs are predicting a cool weekend, the met office are saying it’s going to be hot.

Although the majority of those attending are local, some have travelled hundreds of miles from across the UK to see their heroes.

And in addition to the exposure and publicity for the Island on Radio 1, organisers are also expecting some major coverage in the UK press after the event.
