Waterfront workshop looks at perspective

Saturday 3rd September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE waterfront planning process and the trade-off between the scale of the buildings and the public amenities will be the focus of a workshop next Wednesday.

Policy and Resources are holding a six-hour ‘information workshop’ at St Paul’s Centre from 9.30 am as States Members and invited interest groups discuss how Jersey can get the best possible deal from the site.

The meeting is being held in the wake of the decision by developers Dandara and David Crossland to withdraw their initial plans – which were criticised for being too high and out of keeping with the rest of the Island – and the continuing public controversy over the waterfront development.

Those who attend the workshop will hear from WEB managing director David Margason, architect Eric Kuhne, Planning director Peter Thorne and P&R president Senator Frank Walker.

They will also hear about the UK Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment’s findings from their site appraisal.

Senator Walker said that the workshop would try to explain the key issues around the development.

He said: ‘It is vital that people understand fully all the issues surrounding the waterfront, especially in the light of recent announcements.’
