Juniors win the Minor Cup

LTJJCA won the Minor Cup as they inflicted the first defeat of the season on Weekend League Division I champions St Ouen Reserves in the final at the FB Fields yesterday afternoon.

St Ouen Reserves had started well, reducing LTJJCA (Lord’s Taverners Jersey Junior Cricket Association) to 30 for 4 with tight opening spells from Josh Farrow and Pat Dean and a couple of run outs.

Then Ben Naylor (25) and Peter Brooks (22 not out) gave support to top-scorer Nick Dingle who struck a fine 63 including four 4s and a 6 and helped post a reasonable total of 157 for eight from their 35 overs.

Said Cricket Development Officer Chris Minty: ‘The LTJJCA looked in trouble until Naylor and Dingle put on a good stand and the two Brooks boys played some good shots at the end.

‘Dingle played a very sensible innings to help his side to a respectable total.

‘Then the early wickets made a difference.

Richard Brooks took a good catch to get rid of William Kay and then Matthew Hanley produced a good stumping to remove Anthony Kay.

‘James Perchard and Ben Naylor picked up three wickets apiece but all the bowlers bowled a tight line and they were backed up by good fielding.

It was very encouraging.’ Keith Dennis, president of the Jersey Cricket Board, presented the trophy and the man of the match award to LTJJCA’s Dingle.

Umpires were Ian Kearns and Grenville Fisher.
