Wanderers topple the champions

THERE was a marked reversal in fortunes for last season’s leading two U18 sides when the Lloyds TSB Junior League opened on Sunday morning.

First Tower and St Paul’s were both defeated in Division I, with champions Tower falling heaviest – 5-1 at home to Wanderers.

St John’s Stephen Muir scored the only goal of the game against hosts St Paul’s, the current cup holders.

Tower led at the break through an Adam Speight strike, but they lost their shape during a David-Kenyon inspired revival early in the second-half.

Kenyon helped himself to four goals, including a penalty, with Jamie Cullen getting the other in an emphatic second-half show at La Hague.

Sporting Academics won the other Division I fixture, 3-1 at St Brelade, with a double from multi-talented sportsman Paul Dingle and a single from Jamie Savory.

Ben Bechelet score for the home side.

In Division II there was a goal feast at St Ouen, with former St Brelade striker Kyle Hampshire scoring four times for the hosts in a 7-4 win over Grouville.

Also on target for Saints were Ashley Turner, Jason Boyle and Alex Kilpatrick.

Sammy Wright (two), Jack Renouf and Luke Olivier scored for the Easterners.

It was a lot tighter at St Clement where the home side’s Andy Le Moine earned the points by scoring the only goal of the game against St Martin/SCF.
