Islandwide appeal for St Thomas’s
Wednesday 7th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.
AN Islandwide appeal is to be launched on Sunday in aid of the restoration of St Thomas’s Roman Catholic Church.
A total of £600,000 is needed to meet the cost of exterior maintenance for the building and interior improvements that would include new heating, lighting and audio-visual systems.
Around £230,000 has been raised so far as a result of the sale of property and other fund-raising.
The appeal will be launched by the Lieut-Governor, Air Chief Marshal Sir John Cheshire, at an open garden event at Government House on Sunday afternoon, to which the public are invited.
The St Thomas’s Church building was consecrated in 1887 and is in need of considerable restoration, maintenance and improvement.
