Handbook launched by National Trust for heritage open day

THE National Trust for Jersey are launching a new handbook at their heritage open day tomorrow.

The 92-page colour publication, complete with contemporary and historical photographs, maps, site details, historical and environmental notes contributed by local experts, is a much more up-to-date guide than the 16-year-old handbook it replaces.

The new handbook comes in loose-leaf form in a durable ringbinder to encourage trust members and walkers to explore the 150 sites the trust look after.

‘What we’re setting out to do is to illustrate the huge wealth of properties and land under the care of the trust enabling members to discover more about those sites and also non-members to find out about the work of the trust in the Island,’ said chief executive Charles Alluto.

‘In addition to that, we’re also seeking to give information about the Island’s heritage as a whole.

There are lots of special little points of interest within the handbook illustrating information about flora and fauna.

‘The idea is to encourage people to go out with the guide as opposed to it being something which sits on a coffee table.’
