A dozen teams enter inaugural friendly league

Monday 12th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

MUMS, housewives, businesswomen and ladies from all backgrounds are being encouraged to get back into netball with fun coaching sessions and a new friendly league.

The Come Back to Netball scheme was launched in May by netball development officer Linda Andrews and has attracted over 130 women.

Now 12 teams have registered for the Jersey Jollies Friendly League which started on Thursday at Les Quennevais.

Abacus, Mourant, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, HSBC, RBSI and CPA have all entered business teams.

Other entries include the FCJ Mums, the Canaries, the Misfits and Black and Blue.

The idea is part of a development programme to offer more opportunities for people to play netball and to get involved in umpiring.

It is encouraging ladies to rediscover their enjoyment of the sport with others of the same level and without the pressure of competition.

There are five sessions of games, which each last ten minutes, to enable the whole squad to participate and ease back in gently.

A tournament is also planned for the end of the season to give the teams an opportunity to show their skills.
