Rampage prisoners in court
Tuesday 13th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.
THREE prisoners who went on a rampage and caused £35,000 worth of damage at La Moye have had their prison sentences increased.
The prisoners trashed furniture, lit fires, smashed windows and barricaded themselves in one of the wings after drinking vodka to celebrate one of the accused’s birthday.
And one of the men, Steven Shewan (36), made sure that his DVD player, PlayStation and plasma-screen television were packed away safely before embarking on the trail of destruction.
The Superior Number of the Royal Court yesterday decided to sentence Shewan to 7 1/2 years for the affray and for a grave and criminal assault, in which he stabbed a man who gave a statement to the police about an earlier crime in which he had been involved.
Shewan was in prison waiting to be sentenced for the assault when the riot happened.
The others sentenced were Francis Sullivan (39), who had his prison term for drug trafficking increased by six months, and Serge Peacock (26), who had his sentence for drug trafficking increased by two years.
