St Peter’s Ladies FA Cup dream ends
Tuesday 13th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.
ST PETER FC’s second Ladies FA Cup adventure ended in the Isle of Wight on Sunday, but not before they put on a dogged performance.
Facing Shanklin Ladies, physically a far stronger outfit, the St Peter Ladies again gave a good account of themselves before bowing out 2-0.
The match was notable for the performance of Stacy Bree in goal.
Only recently converted to the position Bree kept Saints in the match with several fine saves.
Much of the early pressure came from the home side, although St Peter had a couple of chances when they responded after 20 minutes are so.
A ball over the top of the defence proved their undoing just before the break, however, and they went in one down.
Shanklin again used their height and strength to good effect in the second half and extended their lead with a tremendous headed goal following a corner kick.
Saints, pictured, kept on battling, but it was player-of-the-match Bree who kept them in contention with a string of good saves.
Shanklin go on to meet AFC Bournemouth in the next round.
St Peter ladie: Stacey Bree, Katie Da Silva, Sharon McGrath, Candice Sharples, Donna Le Moine, Sarah Gavey, Lisa Godinho, Susan Stewart, Joanne Fuller, Sarah Williams, Yolanda Gomes , Annette Christensen and Jane Pestel.
FIRST Tower United were 5-3 winners in the Zenith Trust Cup Group A match against St Paul’s at La Hague Manor on Sunday.
Their goals came from Kerry Sauvage (2), Lauren Jehan, Sarah Bland and Louise van der Vliet.
Suzanne Rosser and Jo Jones replied.
In another high-scoring game St John smashed 11 past Grouville without reply.
Jess Viera led the scorers with five and Fiona McKinnon hit three with Tracy and Karen Caghill and Laura Robertson also finding the net.
St John play First Tower next week in their final group match.
In the B Group a goal from Ebonnie Hotton gave St Clement a 1-0 win at St Brelade.
